Mary Ellen Benning Eaton has been Georgia Military College’s Rifle Team Chief Instructor and Range Coordinator for ten years.  The ROTC Rifle Team, under her leadership captured the National Rifle Association National Intercollegiate National title for the past four years, (2013,2014,2015,2016).  Georgia Military College is a member of the Southeastern Air Rifle Conference and the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association. In previous years nineteen members of the rifle team have been awarded CRCA Scholastic All-American by the Coaches Association.  In the Southeastern Air Rifle Conference the Varsity Rifle Team has been awarded Most Improved Team in 2010, 2011 and 2012.  Team members have also been awarded Most Improved Shooters in the conference. The Varsity Team won Team Record Score Club Division 2014-2015.  As members of the National Rifle Association, GMC has had three Gold Medal Winners as top shooters in ROTC Intercollegiate Nationals.  They have won two silver medals and a bronze in the same competition.

Mary Ellen was also instrumental in a GMC prep shooter winning a silver medal in Georgia State Competition.  According to the Civilian Marksmanship Director, it was the first time Georgia Military College has won a medal at State.  Another prep shooter was chosen for individual National Championship Competition at Ft. Benning, Ga.  She was one of WMAZ’s Student of the Week and appeared on their television news.  A few prep school students won scholarships through the Civilian Marksmanship Program with recommendations from their coaches.

Mary Ellen has been shooting since high school and a member of a National Girls Rifle Team and senior shooting team in the State of Virginia.  She attended Washington Hospital School of Nursing affiliated with Washington and Jefferson College and St. Joseph’s College in Maine along with Florida State in The Republic of Panama.

As a military wife, she spent many years teaching rifle shooting and a founder of rifle clubs in the United States, Germany, Belgium and The Republic of Panama.  Many of her students have been in International/World Competition as well as the Olympics throughout the years.  She has also held positions of Hunter Safety Instructor in many states in the USA and with the German shooting clubs.

She is a Life Member of the NRA and received the highest award, The Legion of Merit.  She is a certified rifle instructor/coach, NRA certified range officer and JROTC Marksmanship Instructor.  She is affiliated with the Civilian Marksmanship Program, USA Shooting, Pennsylvania Rifle and Pistol Association and Military Officers Association of America.
